The Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the Gurgaon Police Commissioner to unravel the mystery surrounding the murder of the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s wife, on Monday recreated the scene of crime.
A team of forensic experts found two empty cartridge shells from the spot where the body of Geetanjali Garg (28) was discovered in Parade Ground. The investigators are still clueless as they have not been able to ascertain the motive behind the murder.
Preliminary investigations were directed towards suicide angle, but the protest by Geetanjali’s family and subsequent developments led police to add Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for murder.
Alok Mittal, the Gurgaon police chief is monitoring the investigations and has widened the probe to investigate the role of CJM Ravneet Garg in the case.
The SIT scanned the spot on Sunday. The empty shells and some samples recovered from the spot will be sent for the ballistic and forensic examination in Central Forensic Science laboratory (CFSl) in Madhuban to make it clear whether the shells were fired from CJM's licensed pistol. Earlier, the police claimed that three bullets were fired as the victim had sustained three bullet wounds, but the disappearance of the third bullet has added another twist in the ongoing probe.
The recovery of two fired bullet shells put all the speculations, like Geetanjali Garg was murdered somewhere else and her body was dumped in the Parade ground by her killers, to rest. The police are awaiting the ballistic report before reaching any conclusion in the matter. However, the police sources said the investigation so far suggested it could be a case of suicide. What is more baffling is the fact that despite being a sensitive zone, nobody heard the sound of bullets being fired.
Meanwhile, Geetanjali's family members have filed a supplementary complaint of dowry harassment against Ravneet Garg late on Sunday in Civil lines Police station.
“Rachna Garg and KK Garg, Ravneet’s parents were being examined by the SIT to know whether there was any tension between the CJM and his wife. They also alleged that Ravneet had an illicit affair and also murdered his Geetanjali. We are investigating the case and more sections could be added once the investigations are over,” said Alok Mittal, Gurgaon Police Commissioner.
