Punjab CM Lays Foundation Stone for New Medical College in Dera Bassi
Dera Bassi: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday reaffirmed his Government's commitment to quality healthcare while laying the foundation stone for Sri Sukhmani Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Dera Bassi. The project is a significant step towards realizing the “Sehatmand Punjab” mission, ensuring that no resident of Punjab is deprived of medical treatment, he said. Highlighting the expansion of medical education, Mann said that the government is setting up medical colleges across districts, allowing students to pursue MBBS within the State. The new medical college in Dera Bassi will be Mohali district’s second, after Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences. He emphasized that Punjab’s healthcare system is undergoing a revolution, with 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics providing essential medical services to citizens. He stated that the new institution will not only increase MBBS seats but also strengthen healthcare infrastructure, ensuring quality treatment for the local population.
Hry Govt notifies 42 services under Right to Service Act
Chandigarh: The Haryana Government has brought 42 services of the Industries and Commerce Department under the ambit of the Right to Service Act, 2014, with specified time limits for their delivery. Additionally, designated officers, first grievance redressal authorities and second grievance redressal authorities have been notified to ensure timely provision of these services. A notification to this effect was issued by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi. The move aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the delivery of services to industries and businesses in Haryana, said a spokesperson.
Four killed as car rams into tree in Hisar
Hisar: Four students of a polytechnic college in Hisar were killed when their car rammed into a tree on Wednesday night as they were going to attend a wedding. The victims have been identified as Ankush Kumar (19), Sahil Kumar (19), Hitesh (20) and Nikhil (17), residents of different villages of Hisar, said Hisar police spokesman Vikas Kumar on Thursday. He said that the accident took place when they were headed to attend the wedding of a friend’s sister at Mangali village. Mangali police checkpost in-charge Rajesh Kumar said though the car was not at a high speed, the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp turn.
PM Vishwakarma Trade Fair cum Exhibition concludes in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: The PM Vishwakarma Trade Fair cum Exhibition, organized by the Development cum Facilitation Office, Ludhiana, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, concluded on Thursday at Kisan Bhawan. The exhibition, which served as a platform for artisans and MSME entrepreneurs to showcase their products and craftsmanship, witnessed good response from participants and visitors. The valedictory function, held on the final day, was graced by Sanjeev Chawla, IEDS, Additional Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, Ishita Thaman, IES, Deputy Director, Ministry of MSME, UT Chandigarh and others.
Essential supplies air-dropped in avalanche-hit village in Himachal's Pangi valley
Shimla: The district administration Chamba and District Disaster Management Authority airdropped essential supplies including blankets, tarpaulins, kitchen utensils, solar lights, shoes, warm clothes, food items like flour, rice, pulses, oil, and medicines in avalanche-hit village Kumar, Tehsil Pangi, in Chamba district on Thursday. A government spokesman said that village Kumar experienced an avalanche on Wednesday due to which a road blockade occurred and people living there were in need of essential services. He said that after receiving information, the district administration has been asked to undertake the rescue and other operations on a war footing to provide all possible assistance to the affected people. He said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was constantly in touch with the district administration and monitoring the situation.Sukhu has directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the residents of the village to alleviate their hardships.
Bihar Foundation Finalizes Plans for Holi Milan & Bihar Diwas Celebrations
Chandigarh: The Executive Committee of the Punjab and Chandigarh Chapter of Bihar Foundation convened on Thursday to finalize key upcoming events, including the Holi Milan Karyakram and Bihar Diwas celebrations. The meeting was attended by Chairman Rupesh Kumar Singh and other officer bearers. Singh said that Holi Milan Karyakram is scheduled for March 13 and it was also decided that Bihar Diwas will be celebrated on March 22 at KalaGram Ground, wherein stalls of products of Bihar will be displayed along with Cultural programme. The necessary permissions and arrangements for the event have already been initiated.
Illegal arms smuggling module busted in Punjab, 2 arrested
Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Thursday claimed to have busted an illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of two persons. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the accused.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said those arrested have been identified as Kanwalpreet Singh alias Kanwar, a resident of Buttar Kalan village in Batala and Ranjit Singh, a resident of Bhaini Bangar in Gurdaspur. One 9 mm Glock pistol, one .30 bore pistol, two .32 bore pistols, four magazines and 39 cartridges were recovered from them, the officer said.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Kanwalpreet was in contact with US-based gangster Pavittar Singh Chaurra, a native of Chaurra village in Batala, and was acting at his behest, Yadav said. Probe also revealed that Chaurra arranged this weapon consignment to further supply to the criminal elements to disturb the peace and harmony of the border state, he said.
