Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant progress has been achieved in tackling terrorism and ending separatist ideology in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah, however, maintained that our mission is still not accomplished, because terrorism has been curbed, but it has not been eliminated.
Addressing the BSF soldiers at the ‘Vinay’ border outpost in Kathua, Shah assured that the government is committed to enhancing border security with advanced technologies, offering unwavering support to the BSF’s mission.
During his visit to the border outpost, Amit Shah paid tribute to the martyr Assistant Commandant Vinay Prasad of the Border Security Force, who made the ultimate sacrifice while on duty at the international border in Kathua district in 2019.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and
Director-General of the Border Security Force, along with several other dignitaries, accompanied the Home Minister.
“Here, one can truly understand the challenging conditions under which you (BSF) ensure the security of the nation’s borders. Whether in intense cold, heavy rain, or 45-degree heat, not a single moment allows you to relax. You have to remain stationed 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, in all types of weather and terrain, staying vigilant so that no adversary can make a move,” Amit Shah said.
“The entire country knows that the BSF is our first line of defence. In every war with Pakistan, the BSF has played a crucial role alongside the army. The technical support provided to the BSF over the next 3-4 years will be used to complete border security measures along the
India-Pakistan border and later on at the India-Bangladesh border as well.
Shah also mentioned that several experiments have been conducted to identify infiltration and to detect and destroy tunnels, using technology.
Currently, 26 experiments are underway, and within the next year, we will definitely reach a decision that will
provide many benefits to you,” Amit Shah said. Amit Shah met the families of martyred policemen in Jammu and handed over appointment letters to 9 nominees on compassionate grounds.
Addressing the families of the martyred police personnel, the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation said that for more than three and a half decades, Jammu and Kashmir has suffered the devastating effects of terrorism. He said that we are proud of the sacrifice of our brave policemen who laid down their lives to protect our country, our homes and our future. The Home Minister said that the whole country is proud of the brave policemen who sacrificed their lives to protect the country.
Speaking on it, J-K Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhar said, “Today we have gathered to pay tribute to martyrs. Sir, your Zero terror plan has given us motivation to fight and destroy the terror network.”
“1620 Policemen have been martyred so far. Few days back, two Pakistani terrorists were killed by our brave policemen. The Terror network has been destroyed by J&K police. There is very good coordination between all the agencies. We will try to get J&K terrorism free,” the DGP said.
The Home Minister urged the J and K Government to take positive steps for the compassionate appointment of 12-year-old Yuvraj Singh, son of martyr SGCT Jaswant Singh, upon attaining adulthood (18 years of age). Shah also paid his respects and gratitude to the family of late Shashi Bhushan Abrol, Deputy Manager/Designer, APCO Construction Company, Gagangir, District Ganderbal. Late Shashi Bhushan Abrol made the supreme sacrifice while on duty during a terrorist attack on the critical infrastructure project of Sonamarg Tunnel on 20 October 2024.
