The Delhi Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is likely to meet on Tuesday to discuss the draft of the Electric Vehicle (EV) 2.0.The Cabinet is also expected to decide continuation of power subsidy and sugar subsidy to underprivileged families.

Under the power subsidy scheme implemented by the previous AAP regime, the Delhi government provides free electricity for a monthly consumption of up to 200 units. A 50 per cent subsidy is also given monthly for those consuming between 201-400 units. This is the third Cabinet meeting of the BJP ruled Delhi government after taking the oath on February 20.

Top sources said the Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her Cabinet is likely to discuss the provisions of the draft of the EV policy 2.0, a step towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation in the capital. The EV Policy 2.0 is drafted not only to accelerate the shift towards electric mobility but also proposes subsidies to ensure a much smoother transition. Additionally, the draft policy includes dedicated subsidies for women buyers, encouraging their active participation and contribution towards this shift.

Suppose you’re a woman buying an electric two-wheeler under the EV Policy 2.0 in Delhi. In that case, you can avail a subsidy of `12,000 per kWh of battery capacity, with the total subsidy capped at `36,000! The policy will offer this subsidy to the first 10,000 women buyers who hold a valid driving licence, benefiting thousands of women in the state.

In addition to this women-specific subsidy, the draft policy also proposes a subsidy of `10,000 per kWh of battery capacity, with the total subsidy capped at `30,000 for all electric two-wheeler buyers, empowering them to join in the State’s transition to electric mobility,’ according to the draft policy. All CNG auto-rickshaws above 10 years old will be mandatorily replaced or retrofitted to be run on batteries during the policy period.

In a strong recommendation, the draft policy also lays down that two wheelers running on petrol, diesel, CNG will not be allowed from August 15, 2026.

Similarly, it recommends that no diesel, petrol, CNG three-wheeler registration will be allowed in case of goods carriers from August 15, 2025.

The Rekha Gupta government is also expected to discuss the continuation of the power subsidy and sugar subsidy for under privileged people.  Under the power subsidy scheme implemented by the previous AAP regime, the Delhi government provides free electricity for a monthly consumption of up to 200 units. A 50 per cent subsidy is also given monthly for those consuming between 201-400 units. Households consuming more than the permissible free electricity pay the applicable tariff rates.

During the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP had made it clear that if came to power, it will not stop any subsidy being provided to the residents and the Cabinet may announce to continue the scheme.

In August 2023, the then Delhi Cabinet decided to provide free sugar to the residents of Delhi. Under this program, the Delhi Government provides free sugar to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries under the sugar subsidy scheme. The distribution of sugar to AAY cardholders was made available free of cost.
