Zoho Co-Founder Sridhar Vembu Calls on Indians in US to Return: “Bharat Needs Your Talent”

Sridhar Vembu, co-founder of Zoho, has urged Indian-origin professionals living in the United States to consider returning home and contribute to India’s growth.
In an open letter shared on social media, Vembu called for a wave of reverse migration, emphasising the need for technological leadership in India. He said the country’s young population would benefit from the experience and expertise gained by Indians working abroad.
Reflecting on his own journey, Vembu noted that many Indians went to the US with limited resources but strong educational and cultural foundations, achieving significant success. While expressing gratitude towards the opportunities offered by the United States, he highlighted growing anti-immigrant sentiment as a cause for concern.
He argued that global respect today is closely tied to a nation’s technological strength and pointed out that India has long produced a large pool of talent, much of which has moved overseas. According to him, the country now offers far greater opportunities in startups, research and development, and manufacturing than it did a decade ago.
Vembu, who himself returned to India after working in the US and built Zoho into a global technology company from rural Tamil Nadu, said it is time for skilled professionals to contribute to India’s development.
“Bharat needs your talent,” he said, urging Indians abroad to bring back their knowledge and help guide the next generation toward economic progress.
