Nagercoil YouTuber’s house burgled, 118 sovereigns of gold stolen after social media posts
A YouTuber’s house near Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district was burgled after thieves allegedly broke in through the rear door and escaped with 118 sovereigns of gold jewellery, along with other valuables, police said.
The incident took place at VIP Garden in Thammathukonam, where YouTuber Madhumitha lives with her husband Vinoth Kumar and their child. The family had left home on Thursday evening to shop for clothes and returned late at night, only to find the house ransacked.
Police said the intruders entered through the rear door and broke open a bureau before stealing the jewellery. Reports put the value of the stolen gold at more than Rs 1 crore. Some reports have also said cash and diamond jewellery were taken.
The Rajakkamangalam police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage and phone records to identify the suspects. Senior police officials, including Kanyakumari SP Anshul Nagar, inspected the house, while multiple special teams have been formed to trace those involved.
Madhumitha’s social media activity has also come under scrutiny during the investigation. She had posted videos and reels displaying gold jewellery, cash and a lavish lifestyle, including content about purchasing gold regularly. Police are examining whether such posts may have helped the burglars identify the valuables kept at the house.
Fresh update: Police are also reportedly examining people who viewed or interacted with the social media posts, along with CCTV footage and phone-call records, as part of efforts to establish how the burglars may have known the house was vacant.
