Woman jumps into canal with two daughters in Dehradun; children safe

A 28-year-old woman, along with her two daughters, allegedly jumped into the Shakti Canal in the Vikasnagar area here on Saturday, police said.
They added that bystanders, stunned by the incident, managed to safely rescue her daughters, three-year-old Aarvi and another three-month-old infant.
The police reported that at around 4.30 PM, near Bridge Number 1, Kiran Chandel, a resident of Mandi Chowk in Vikasnagar, jumped into the canal with her two daughters.
Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and launched a search operation to locate the woman with the assistance of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). However, she has not yet been found. Both children have been sent to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. According to information obtained from the woman’s family members, the police stated that Kiran had entered into a love marriage with Dheeraj Chandel in 2020. Dheeraj works in Hyderabad but has been home on leave since May 10. However, he was not present at the house on Saturday.
Vivek Kutiyal, the Circle Officer (CO) of Vikasnagar, stated that an investigation is underway to determine the reasons behind the woman jumping into the canal with her children.
