Vijender Gupta pays tribute to Madan Mohan, Vajpayee

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Thursday paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya on his 165th birth anniversary and to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 101st birth anniversary.
Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, MLAs Sanjay Goyal and Ashok Goyal, former North Delhi mayor Jayprakash and senior officers of the Delhi Assembly Secretariat were also present on the occasion.
Speaking to reporters, Gupta said the Delhi Legislative Assembly building once served as the Central Legislative Assembly, where Malaviya himself took part in debates that helped shape India’s political history.
“We have preserved nearly 440 speeches delivered by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya in this very House — each a testament to his intellectual depth, moral courage, and commitment to India’s freedom struggle,” he said. The Speaker added that Malaviya’s vision of an India led by education, character and national purpose continues to inspire the country’s democratic journey. Referring to the day also marking Vajpayee’s birth anniversary, Gupta described the former prime minister as a leader whose “inspiring leadership, poetic statesmanship and democratic values remain a moral compass for the nation”.
“This day, observed as Sushasan Diwas, reminds us that good governance is the greatest service to the nation. As we remember Pandit Malaviya’s role in nation-building, we also salute Shri Vajpayee’s contribution in shaping a confident, modern India,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment to the ideals of the two national icons, the Speaker said, “Today, we take a sankalp to uphold their principles. I firmly believe that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of good governance and Viksit Bharat 2047 will be realised. Their legacy inspires us to work tirelessly for transparent, accountable and citizen-centric governance.”
The event concluded with a collective homage to the two leaders, reaffirming the Assembly’s resolve to uphold constitutional values, democratic traditions and the spirit of national service exemplified by Malaviya and Vajpayee.
