Vijay meets Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, stakes claim to form Government in Tamil Nadu

Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), met Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and formally staked claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
The meeting took place at the Raj Bhavan after the Governor invited Vijay, two days after his party emerged as the single largest formation in the Assembly elections but fell short of a clear majority.
Vijay was accompanied by senior party leaders, including N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, K A Sengottaiyan and C T Nirmal Kumar during the interaction.
The development comes shortly after the Indian National Congress extended support to TVK, strengthening its position in the 234-member Assembly. The party currently has 108 seats, just 10 short of the majority mark of 118.
Sources indicate that TVK is also exploring support from other parties such as the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Left parties, though no formal backing has been confirmed yet.
In the recently concluded elections, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) secured 59 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won 47 seats. Other parties, including Congress and smaller regional outfits, secured limited representation.
Vijay is expected to take oath as Chief Minister on May 7, according to party sources, marking a significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
