Vadodara Police destroy over 1 Lakh bottles of illegal liquor worth ₹4 crore

In a major crackdown on bootlegging, Vadodara Police on Thursday destroyed more than one lakh bottles of illegally seized liquor and beer worth over ₹4 crore, reinforcing Gujarat’s strict prohibition laws.
The destruction drive was carried out under official supervision, with bulldozers crushing the confiscated stock collected from 15 police stations across the city. The seized liquor had been recovered during various operations against illegal alcohol trafficking and bootlegging networks.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. J.M. Chavda said the action reflects the department’s commitment to enforcing prohibition laws and dismantling organised liquor smuggling operations in the state. Gujarat has maintained a prohibition policy since 1960, making the manufacture, sale and consumption of alcohol illegal without special permits.

Police officials stated that the public destruction of seized liquor serves as a deterrent to bootleggers and helps prevent the circulation of potentially harmful or spurious alcohol in the market.
The move has sparked discussions online, with some users questioning the destruction of such a large quantity of liquor. However, authorities maintain that strict enforcement and disposal of seized contraband are essential to upholding the law and protecting public safety.
