US Navy jets collide mid-air during Idaho Air Show

2 United States Navy fighter jets collided mid-air during an aerial demonstration at the Gunfighter Skies Air Show in Idaho, triggering a massive fireball after both aircraft crashed to the ground.
The incident took place near Mountain Home Air Force Base during a live performance involving two EA-18G Growler aircraft from Electronic Attack Squadron 129 based in Washington.
Dramatic videos shared online captured the moment the jets appeared to come dangerously close before colliding in the sky. The aircraft were then seen spiralling downward together before crashing and exploding on impact, sending thick black smoke into the air.
According to officials, all four crew members aboard the two aircraft managed to eject safely moments before the crash. Authorities confirmed that the personnel were in stable condition and no injuries were reported on the ground.
The collision occurred around 12:10 pm local time, approximately two miles from the base. Emergency response teams rushed to the crash site, while authorities immediately locked down the air base and cancelled the remainder of the air show.
Commander Amelia Umayam, spokesperson for Naval Air Forces Pacific Fleet, confirmed that the aircraft were performing an aerial demonstration when the collision occurred. She said the incident is currently under investigation.
Aviation safety experts noted that formation flying during air shows leaves very little room for error despite the high level of pilot training involved in such demonstrations.
The Gunfighter Skies Air Show, held for the first time in eight years, was organised to showcase modern military aviation and aerial performances. The US Navy’s “Vikings” Growler Demo Team was among the featured attractions.
Investigators are expected to determine the sequence of events quickly, as all four crew members survived and can provide firsthand accounts of the incident.
