Twisha Sharmacase: Court extends judicial custody of retired judge, son till Aug 11
A Bhopal court has extended the judicial custody of retired judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh till August 11 in connection with the death of model-turned-actress Twisha Sharma.
The court accepted the CBI's request for additional time to complete its investigation, which is in its final stages.
Twisha, the wife of Samarth Singh and daughter-in-law of Giribala Singh, was allegedly found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. The two accused were later arrested on charges related to dowry harassment, mental abuse and domestic violence.
Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh appeared before the Bhopal District and Sessions Court via videoconference on Tuesday.
According to lawyer Ankur Pandey, who represents Twisha's family, the special court also directed the CBI to submit its final report by August 11. The agency told the court that it needed additional time to complete remaining formalities.
The CBI is expected to file its chargesheet on August 11, the lawyer said.
Earlier, on July 25, the special court rejected Giribala Singh's bail plea, citing the seriousness of the charges against her.
Twisha's family had earlier approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court, alleging lapses in the preliminary investigation and post-mortem. The High Court subsequently ordered a second post-mortem by an AIIMS Delhi team.
The investigation was later transferred to the CBI.
