Two suspected NSCN (IM) cadres arrested for extortion in Manipur
Two suspected cadres of the banned NSCN (IM) were arrested on charges of extortion in Manipur's Tamenglong district, police said on Wednesday.
The suspects were apprehended on Tuesday from Sibilong along National Highway-37 in the Kaimai police station area. They were identified as Gaisuaklung Ngaomei, 45, of Bhalok village, and Job Gangmei, 29, of Sibilong Part-II, both in Tamenglong district.
Police said security personnel seized one live cartridge, Rs 22,000 in cash and two communication sets with chargers from their possession.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from Sendra Hill near Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district.
The recovered items included a .32 pistol, an SBBL gun, a .22 bolt-action rifle, a Jefferson rifle, nine locally made carbines, two locally made MP-5 firearms and six packets of improvised explosive devices, police said.
