Two detained for waving saffron flag on mosque structure in Tughlakabad

Two people were detained after they allegedly climbed onto a mosque structure and waved a saffron flag during a religious procession in southeast Delhi’s Tughlakabad area on Wednesday, police said.
The incident took place around 1:30 pm when a Shobha Yatra was passing through the locality. According to police, the two individuals climbed onto the tin shed of the ablution area (wuzu khana) of the mosque and began waving the flag, causing concern among local residents.
Police personnel present in the area responded quickly. Beat staff on motorcycle patrol noticed the activity and immediately intervened. The two men were brought down from the structure without delay, preventing the situation from escalating further.
Senior police officers reached the spot soon after the incident. They held discussions with members of the mosque committee and local residents to ensure that tensions did not rise. Police said the situation was brought under control promptly and remained peaceful. “The situation is completely under control and peaceful. Prompt action by the beat staff helped prevent any escalation,” a senior police officer said.
Officials said the incident occurred during the movement of the religious procession through the area. The act of climbing onto the mosque structure and waving a flag triggered unease among people in the locality. However, swift police action helped contain the situation before it could develop into a larger issue. Police maintained that there was no delay in response.
