Traffic Police issue 2,846 challans in wrong-side driving crackdown

Delhi Traffic Police issued 2,846 challans and registered 32 FIRs during a special enforcement drive against wrong-side driving and other traffic violations carried out across the Capital on Saturday evening.
The two-hour operation was conducted jointly by the Traffic Police and local police teams between 4 pm and 6 pm at several vulnerable locations identified for frequent traffic violations and unsafe driving practices.
According to Delhi Traffic Police, the campaign was mainly aimed at curbing wrong-side driving, which officials described as one of the leading causes of road accidents and traffic congestion in the city.
Out of the total challans issued during the drive, 757 were specifically for wrong-side driving. Police also registered 32 FIRs under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act against motorists allegedly involved in dangerous and rash driving that endangered public safety.
Officials said integrated checking pickets were established at multiple hotspots across Delhi where incidents of wrong-side driving are regularly reported.
Traffic personnel intercepted violators and prosecuted them under relevant legal provisions during the operation.
Apart from wrong-side driving, enforcement teams also took action against several other traffic violations. These included drunken driving, triple riding on two-wheelers, riding without helmets, dangerous driving, use of black films on vehicles and improper parking.
Delhi Traffic Police said the drive was part of its continuing efforts to strengthen road discipline and improve commuter safety across the city.
