Traffic Police fine over 24,000 vehicles in 2-week Operation Chakravyuh crackdown
The Delhi Traffic Police have challaned more than 24,000 vehicles and impounded 144 others during a two-week enforcement drive aimed at curbing dangerous driving and habitual traffic violations across the Capital.
The operation, codenamed Chakravyuh, was conducted from December 1, following specific directions from the Commissioner of Police, Delhi.
According to the Traffic Management Division of Delhi Police, the special drive was launched to tighten enforcement at busy junctions, market areas and accident-prone stretches, where violations routinely threaten public safety.
Over the course of the operation, traffic police teams worked in close coordination with local police stations and PCR units to ensure that offenders could not evade action. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters) Shashank Jaiswal said the aim of Operation Chakravyuh was to create a strong deterrent against habitual violations and promote safer driving habits. He added that the traffic police remain committed to ensuring smooth, disciplined and secure movement on Delhi’s roads through regular enforcement and community support.
During the drive, a total of 24,841 challans were issued for various traffic violations. In addition, 144 vehicles were impounded for grave offences, including cases where vehicles were found to be stolen.
Police officials said such seizures sent a strong message that traffic enforcement can also help detect other crimes.
The operation also led to the registration of an FIR at Timarpur police station after narcotic substances were detected inside a vehicle during routine checks. Officials said the recovery highlighted how intensified traffic checks often uncover wider criminal activity beyond traffic offences.
