The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory ahead of a large public meeting and Shobha Yatra to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar on April 14, warning of major traffic restrictions in central parts of the city from morning till evening.
According to the advisory, a public meeting will be held at Ramlila Ground between 11 am and 3 pm.
This will be followed by a Shobha Yatra that will move through several busy roads before concluding at Dr Ambedkar Bhawan in Paharganj. The entire programme is expected to impact traffic movement from 9 am to 7 pm.
The procession will begin from Ramlila Ground and pass-through key locations including Ajmeri Gate, Shradhanand Market, Khari Baoli, Qutab Road, Sadar Bazar, Bara Tooti Chowk, Pahari Dhiraj, Filmistan Cinema, Manakpura, Sidhi Pura, East Park Road, D B Gupta Road, Guru Ravidas Marg, Dev Nagar, Kikar Wala Chowk, Hathi Wala Chowk, Regar Pura, Arya Samaj Road, Dr Ambedkar Marg and Rani Jhansi Road before ending at Ambedkar Bhawan.
Traffic police said diversions and restrictions will be imposed based on the movement of the procession. JLN Marg may face restrictions when required. Heavy vehicles could be stopped from entering certain stretches, including Delhi Gate, Minto Road, and Ajmeri Gate, depending on the situation.
Commuters have been advised to avoid several major roads during the day to prevent delays. These include JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road, Chaman Lal Marg, Ajmeri Gate, Minto Road, Qutab Road, Rani Jhansi Marg, East Park Road, and DB Gupta Road. These routes are expected to witness heavy congestion due to the gathering and the movement of the procession.
Authorities said the restrictions are necessary to ensure the smooth conduct of the event and to maintain public safety. Police personnel will be deployed at key intersections to regulate traffic and assist commuters.
Special parking arrangements have also been made for visitors attending the event. People have been asked to park their vehicles only in the designated parking area at Mata Sundari College. Officials warned that parking on main roads or along the procession route will not be allowed under any circumstances.
Strict action will be taken against vehicles found parked on JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road, and Chaman Lal Marg, as well as other key stretches along the route. Such vehicles will be towed away, and legal action will be initiated against owners.
