Traders pitch reforms to CM: CAIT seeks level playing field, simpler rules
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has submitted a set of recommendations to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for the upcoming Delhi Budget.
The traders’ organisation called for regulatory reforms, a digital push, and protection for small traders amid rising competition from e-commerce platforms.
Under the theme “Viksit Vyapar - Samriddh Dilli”, the traders’ body has proposed measures aimed at improving ease of doing business while preserving Delhi’s position as a major trade hub. CAIT Secretary General and MP Praveen Khandelwal said the recommendations focus on simplifying processes and strengthening the traditional retail sector. “These steps are essential to support traders and ensure balanced growth in Delhi’s trade ecosystem,” he said.
Among the key proposals is the introduction of a single-window clearance system to reduce delays in approvals. The body has also called for the decriminalisation of minor compliance violations and time-bound permissions to ease regulatory pressure on businesses.
CAIT has further recommended complete digitisation of inspections to improve transparency and reduce physical interface with officials.
It has also proposed the creation of district-level facilitation centres to assist traders with documentation and approvals.
A major concern flagged by the traders’ body is competition from e-commerce and quick commerce platforms. CAIT has sought a strong regulatory framework to curb predatory pricing and what it described as unfair trade practices.
“The aim is to ensure a level playing field for offline traders who are facing increasing pressure,” an official familiar with the proposal said.
