Three, including minor, held for gang rape, murder of class 10 student in Assam

Three persons, including a minor, were held in Assam's Hailakandi district in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl, police said on Tuesday, August 4.
The victim's mother had gone to attend a function at a neighbour's house on Saturday night, and after returning home, she found her body lying in the bed without clothes, they said.
Villagers immediately informed the Katlicherra police station, and the body, which also had visible injuries, was sent to the SK Roy Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination, they added.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted, and three persons were nabbed on Monday in connection with the case, police said.
The incident triggered protests in the area with locals blocking the NH-6, demanding exemplary punishment for those behind the incident.
Several organisations have condemned the incident and demanded a fast-track trial to ensure speedy justice for the victim.
Protest marches were held in the area and memoranda submitted to the district administration.
