Syringe batches supplied to AIIMS Delhi recalled over quality complaints Centre
Certain batches of disposable syringes supplied to the AllMS, Delhi, were recalled this year as a precautionary patient-safety measure following quality-related complaints, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, August 4.
Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav in a written reply said the affected batches had been manufactured by M/s Noble Pharmacare Limited and M/s Veekay Surgicals.
Responding to a question on whether the government had taken note of reports regarding the recall of certain batches of disposable syringes at AIIMS during 2026, Jadhav said the recall was initiated as a precautionary measure after user departments reported quality-related complaints.
He, however, said no adverse effect on patients had been reported due to the affected batches. The minister said show-cause notices have been issued to the two firms and the entire quantity of the defective batches has been replaced with fresh supplies.
Highlighting the safeguards in place, Jadhav said AIIMS follows stringent procurement and quality inspection protocols, including random sampling and inspection at the time of procurement and supply.
He said an inspection committee compares the supplies received with the samples submitted during the bidding process, and any batch that does not conform to the approved specifications is rejected.
The minister added that AIIMS has also established a specialised Patient Safety and Quality Cell to undertake root cause analysis of such incidents and recommend corrective interventions to prevent recurrence.
Jadhav was replying to a question on the details of the syringe recall, whether any adverse effects had been reported among patients, and the action taken against the manufacturers and suppliers concerned.
