Tharoor again praises MODI Govt
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor apparently continued to ‘provoke’ his parent organisation with his latest ‘appreciation’ of the Modi Government, where he lauded External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for setting up the Nalanda University campus in Bihar and many other unsung contributions to the country.
“I was hugely impressed by the Nalanda University campus while attending the Nalanda Literature Festival. My warm congratulations to EAM Jaishankar on this wonderful achievement, which deserves a higher rating among the many unsung contributions of MEA to our nation,” Tharoor, a former External Affairs Minister during the Congress-led UPA Government, said. Tharoor was at Nalanda University for the literature festival being organised.
Tharoor has often lauded the Narendra Modi Government and made remarks that are at variance with his party’s and its leadership’s views. During the just-concluded Winter Session, Tharoor did not attend the party’s strategic meetings led by Congress Parliamentary Panel chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
He also gave a skip to the Opposition meeting led by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and rather chose to appreciate the passage of the G-RAM-G Bill replacing MNREGA, about which all the opposition parties held protests in and out of the Parliament.
Congress protested Tharoor’s inclusion in the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s banquet while keeping away the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Tharoor defied the party’s advice similarly to the reasons he chose to be part of the delegations appointed by the Centre to apprise the various concerns on Operation Sindoor.
“I came to Bihar to witness its culture, not to fulfil any political agenda. I encourage others to explore the Bihar Museum and the Bapu Tower,” Tharoor told reporters in Patna.
On Monday, Tharoor said, “India no longer hosts any of the world’s leading universities. While a few universities have now entered the top 200, none figure among the top 10 or even the top 50 worldwide.” He welcomed the revival of the Nalanda University as a symbol of India’s civilisational legacy.
Sources in the Congress said Tharoor has been, in fact, provoking his party to ‘sack’ him as he has been sent feelers from the ruling party, which is now eyeing the assembly polls scheduled in Kerala next year. In the just-held municipal polls where the BJP made inroads, Tharoor appreciated the ‘change’ in Thiruvananthapuram.
