Tension in Lucknow as police lathi charge lawyers during demolition drive

Tension gripped Lucknow’s Kaiserbagh area after lawyers protesting against a demolition drive clashed with police near the Civil Court complex. The situation escalated when police reportedly used force to control the crowd as demonstrations intensified.
The anti-encroachment operation was carried out by the Municipal Corporation as part of an effort to remove alleged illegal structures and clear public spaces around the court premises. The action was reportedly taken following directions issued by the Lucknow Bench of the High Court.
Lawyers opposed the demolition, claiming that the removal of chambers and shops was unfair and that adequate arrangements had not been made before carrying out the operation. Protesters raised concerns about the impact of the demolition on those who depended on these spaces for their work.
As tensions increased, authorities deployed a heavy police presence in the area to prevent further disturbances and maintain law and order. Officials stated that the anti-encroachment drive is aimed at improving public access and reducing congestion around the court complex.
The situation was later brought under control, although the atmosphere in the area remained tense for some time.
