Temperatures drop sharply after spell of rain in City

Delhi on Saturday witnessed a sharp drop in temperatures and a slight improvement in air quality after the spell of rain a day ago.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Safdarjung station recorded a minimum temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees above the season’s normal, marking a sharp fall from Friday’s low of 13.7 degrees Celsius, which was the highest as compared to 13.8 degrees Celsius in 2022. Among the other major stations, Palam and Lodhi Road both saw minimum temperatures of 6.8 degrees Celsius, while The Ridge recorded 6.6 degrees and Ayanagar 6 degrees Celsius, the coldest.
Safdarjung recorded a maximum of 18.2 degrees Celsius, 2.1 notches below normal. Palam was cooler at 15.8 degrees Celsius, dipping 4.4 degrees below normal. Lodi Road and Ridge reported maximums of 18 degrees Celsius and 18.6 degrees Celsius, both below normal by 3 degrees and 1.5 degrees, respectively. Ayanagar recorded a high of 17.5 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees below normal, continuing the trend of subdued daytime temperatures across the region.
After a brief spell of rain on the previous day, Delhi saw improvement in the air quality on Saturday, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) settling at 192 in the ‘moderate’ category as per the Sameer app.
The air quality was ‘moderate’ at 30 stations, while it was ‘poor’ at seven stations. Dwarka, which recorded an AQI of 98 in the ‘satisfactory’ category, is the lowest amongst all the stations.
