Telangana CM objects to SIR mass deletions
Launching a blistering attack on the BJP-led Central Government, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy drew a parallel between the pre-independence era and current times, urging the nation to unite and chant “SIR Go Back”, much like the historic “Simon Go Back” movement against the British.
Speaking on Monday as the chief guest at The Conclave 2026, organised by the Pratidin Media Network, Assam, in New Delhi, the Chief Minister accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of weaponising the Election Commission of India (ECI) to strip the poor of their voting rights. “While the Congress party stands firmly with the underprivileged, the BJP aligns itself exclusively with the wealthy,” Reddy asserted.
The Chief Minister levelled serious allegations regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, claiming it is a calculated political exercise targeting the 2029 general elections.
Reddy alleged that 13 crore votes have already been deleted across the country, with active efforts underway to purge another 7 crore votes.
He claimed this is a targeted attempt by the Modi administration to eliminate 20 crore votes belonging to citizens who oppose the BJP.
“When the entire decision-making authority has been centralised with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi, what is the purpose of having BLAs, BLOs, and District Collectors?” Reddy questioned.
