Tamil Nadu urges Centre to ensure fair tax devolution

The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Friday, Aug 7th unanimously passed a resolution urging the Centre to ensure fair tax devolution to the state in line with the constitutional principles of fiscal and cooperative federalism.
Finance Minister N Marie Wilson moved the resolution, saying Tamil Nadu was entitled to an equitable share of central taxes in view of its contribution to the national economy.
The resolution stated that every state should receive a fair share of central tax revenue based on its tax contribution and development needs, in keeping with the principles of fiscal federalism.
It also said equitable tax devolution was essential for states to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
DMK leader Thangam Thenarasu moved an amendment supporting the resolution, while AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami also backed the measure.
Speaker J C D Prabhakar declared the resolution passed unanimously.
