Tamil Nadu Assembly erupts in uproar as CM Vijay targets DMK, opposition walks out

The Tamil Nadu Assembly witnessed dramatic scenes on Monday after Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched a sharp attack on the DMK during a heated debate, triggering protests and a walkout by opposition members.
The confrontation escalated when Vijay criticised the previous DMK government over governance and corruption issues. During his speech, the Chief Minister also mimicked DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, drawing strong objections from opposition legislators.
DMK members accused Vijay of lowering the dignity of the Assembly and disrupting the decorum of the House. Amid continuous protests and slogan-shouting, opposition legislators staged a walkout in protest against the Chief Minister's remarks.
Vijay defended his comments, alleging that the DMK was unwilling to accept criticism and was attempting to divert attention from issues related to its tenure in office. Treasury bench members backed the Chief Minister, leading to further exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition.
The Assembly session remained tense as both sides traded accusations over governance, welfare schemes and administrative performance. The developments marked one of the most contentious proceedings since the Vijay-led government assumed office.
The political showdown is expected to intensify the rivalry between the ruling administration and the DMK ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
