Suspicious vehicles outside Nepal media houses, opposition leader’s residence sparks panic; Police probe Underway

Nepal Police has launched an investigation after several suspicious vehicles were found parked outside media organisations, a senior opposition leader’s residence and a supermarket in Kathmandu, triggering concern among journalists and the public.
The vehicles were found outside the offices of Kantipur Publications, Onlinekhabar and Himalaya Television from around 7 am on Monday, disrupting movement and creating fear among media workers, according to the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).
Police removed the vehicles with the help of cranes and handed them over to the traffic department for further investigation. Later, similar vehicles were discovered outside the residence of Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa and the Bhatbhateni Supermarket.
Kathmandu District Police spokesperson Apil Bohara said authorities acted immediately after receiving information and found no suspicious objects or immediate security threats at the locations. He added that an investigation into the matter is underway.
The FNJ condemned the incident and urged authorities to conduct a detailed probe and take action against those responsible. The federation said such incidents create fear among journalists and affect press freedom.
The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) also called for an impartial investigation, stating that attempts to intimidate media organisations go against democratic values.
