October 2 gram sabhas to review government schemes, launch village development planning campaign

Special gram sabhas will be held across India on October 2 to review government schemes, discuss governance reforms and identify development priorities at the village level, the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj said on Thursday.
The meetings will also mark the launch of the People's Plan Campaign 2026-27, titled “Sabki Yojana, Sabka Vikas”. Under the campaign, gram panchayats will prepare their Gram Panchayat Development Plans for 2027-28 through participatory, evidence-based planning.
According to the ministry, the meetings will bring residents and local representatives together to assess the implementation of government programmes, identify gaps and decide priorities based on local needs.
Discussions will cover Finance Commission grants to panchayats, capacity-building initiatives, digital governance platforms such as eGramSwaraj and AuditOnline, the SVAMITVA property survey scheme and the Panchayat Advancement Index.
Rural employment and livelihood initiatives, including the VB-G RAM G programme and the Viksit Gram Panchayat Plan, will also be discussed. Other subjects include the Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), watershed development, ration portability under One Nation One Ration Card and the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.
The agenda also includes digital land records, consumer grievance platforms, the new criminal laws, cooperative development and initiatives to protect women and children, including Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
As the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign concludes, the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, will also be discussed during the October 2 meetings.
The ministry said the People's Plan Campaign has been implemented across states and Union territories since 2018. More than 2.55 lakh gram panchayats prepare and upload their development plans through eGramSwaraj, it added.
