Spain wildfire kills 12 in Almeria as extreme heat fuels deadly blaze

At least 12 people were killed in a devastating wildfire that swept through Los Gallardos in Spain's southern province of Almeria, as extreme temperatures continued to fuel dangerous fire conditions across the country.
Spanish authorities said several victims were found inside burnt-out vehicles, according to local media reports. Around 150 firefighters have been deployed to battle the blaze, while the cause of the wildfire is yet to be determined.
Spain's Military Emergency Unit (UME) is expected to join firefighting operations to help contain the rapidly spreading fire and assist local emergency responders.
Regional authorities described the incident as the deadliest wildfire recorded in the history of the Andalusia region.
Andalusia regional president Juan Manuel Moreno expressed his condolences in a post on X, saying, "Our hearts are heavy and we are devastated by grief."
Spain has been experiencing intense heat in recent weeks, with soaring temperatures increasing the risk of wildfires across several regions. Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to follow evacuation orders and safety advisories as firefighting operations continue.
