VCK extends support to Vijay’s TVK, clearing path For Tamil Nadu CM formation

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) extended unconditional support to actor-politician C. Joseph Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), significantly strengthening the alliance’s claim to form the next government in Tamil Nadu.
The announcement was made through letters addressed to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, confirming that VCK’s two MLAs would support TVK in its bid to form the government in the 234-member Assembly.
VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan stated that the decision was taken “in the interest of stable and democratic governance” and extended “unconditional support” to the TVK-led alliance.
In a separate communication, VCK legislature party leader Vanni Arasu also confirmed the party’s backing and requested the Governor to take the support on record.
Senior TVK leaders welcomed the development, with party functionaries describing it as a decisive step towards forming the government, as the alliance’s numbers moved past the majority mark.
The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) also extended support to TVK earlier in the day, taking the alliance tally to around 120 MLAs, well above the required majority of 118 in the 234-member Assembly.
With this latest support, TVK’s position has strengthened significantly after days of uncertainty over government formation and negotiations among various political parties.
The Governor had reportedly been seeking written confirmation of majority support before inviting TVK to formally stake claim to form the government, leading to intense political discussions across parties in the State.
The latest developments now place Vijay and his alliance in a strong position to potentially form the next government in Tamil Nadu.
