US Iran war escalates as strikes hit military sites, kuwait reports missile and drone attack

Tensions in West Asia escalated sharply after the United States carried out new military strikes on Iranian targets, including a site officials believed posed a threat to US forces and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to reports, the US military also intercepted and shot down multiple Iranian drones that were considered a threat to regional security and maritime traffic.

In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they targeted an American military base in retaliation for the US strikes, though they did not specify the exact location. At the same time, Kuwait, a key US ally, reported that it had come under missile and drone attacks during the ongoing escalation.

Iranian state media claimed that the attack on the US base was carried out after a site near Bandar Abbas Airport was struck earlier, further intensifying the cycle of retaliation between the two sides.

Separately, Iranian forces also fired warning shots at vessels attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz without coordination, highlighting growing tensions over one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.

The United States has also imposed new sanctions on Iran’s Strait of Hormuz authority, accusing it of attempting to collect fees from global shipping and calling it an effort to generate revenue for military and proxy activities.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue amid uncertainty, with US President Donald Trump indicating that discussions toward a possible agreement are ongoing but not yet finalised. Talks reportedly include proposals related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Iran, however, maintains that no final agreement is close and has warned that external actors, including Israel, could attempt to derail negotiations.

The situation remains highly volatile as military activity, sanctions, and diplomatic negotiations unfold simultaneously across the region.
