Boat capsizes in Bihar’s Samastipur, 2 dead and 5 missing in rescue operation

At least two people were killed and five others went missing after a boat capsized in Bihar’s Samastipur district on Thursday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred around 5:45 am when passengers were returning from Sultanpur Diara in the Mohiuddinnagar block area. The boat, carrying 14 people, overturned due to strong winds, according to a statement from the district administration.

Rescue teams from both Samastipur and Patna districts have been deployed and are jointly conducting search and rescue operations.

Officials confirmed that seven people were rescued safely, while the bodies of two victims have been recovered so far. Efforts are continuing to trace the five missing persons.

Authorities said the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. Further updates are awaited as rescue operations continue in the affected area.
