Trump accuses Iran of attacking Indian ships near Hormuz, Tehran rejects claims as ‘Baseless’

A fresh war of words has erupted between the United States and Iran after US President Donald Trump accused Tehran of attempting a drone attack on Indian-linked vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran swiftly rejected the allegation, calling it “baseless” and politically motivated.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iranian drones targeted Indian ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz and described the alleged incident as “totally unacceptable.” He also accused Iran of misrepresenting the terms of an emerging peace agreement between Washington and Tehran.

Iran’s mission in India strongly denied the accusation, stating that the US president’s claims lacked any factual basis. Tehran further alleged that Washington was attempting to divert attention from recent attacks on vessels carrying Indian crew members in the region.

The exchange comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region following attacks on commercial shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor. Reports indicate that three vessels with Indian crew members came under attack off the Oman coast this week, resulting in the deaths of three Indian seafarers in one incident.

Meanwhile, US military officials said American forces intercepted and shot down several Iranian attack drones that were considered a threat to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The development occurred even as negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing US-Iran conflict continued.

The latest accusations add another layer of uncertainty to ongoing diplomatic efforts, with both Washington and Tehran offering conflicting accounts of the proposed peace framework and security situation in the Gulf.
