3 coaches of empty Ujjaini Express Derail near Rishikesh

Three coaches of the Ujjaini Express derailed near Rishikesh on Monday night while the train was being moved towards the railway yard, railway officials said.

The incident occurred around 9:40 pm near the Yog Nagri railway station in Uttarakhand. Officials confirmed that the train was empty at the time, and no casualties or injuries were reported.

According to railway sources, the derailment took place in the Khand Gaon yard area during a shunting operation. The locomotive reportedly collided with the buffer stop at the dead end of the line, leading to pressure on the attached coaches.

As a result, one coach went off the tracks while another suffered structural damage after buckling in the middle. In total, three coaches sustained damage in the incident.

The Ujjaini Express operates between Lakshmibai Nagar in Indore and Yog Nagri Rishikesh.

Railway officials have begun an inquiry into the incident, and restoration work was initiated soon after the derailment to clear the affected section.
