Trinamool Candidate Jahangir Khan withdraws from Falta Bypoll ahead of repoll in West Bengal

Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan has announced his withdrawal from the Falta bypoll in West Bengal, just two days before the scheduled repoll.
Khan said his decision was taken in the interest of peace and development in the constituency, adding that he envisions a “Sonar Falta” under ongoing state initiatives. He also stated that the decision was personal.
However, the Trinamool Congress clarified that the move was not the party’s decision and alleged that its workers in Falta have faced intimidation and arrests following the earlier election process.
The BJP, meanwhile, reacted strongly, with leaders claiming the withdrawal reflects internal pressure within the TMC camp. The Falta repoll has gained political significance as it falls under the Diamond Harbour region.
Counting of votes for the Falta bypoll is scheduled for May 24.
