Thane Court sentences two Bangladeshi women to two years in jail, orders deportation

A court in Maharashtra's Thane district has sentenced two Bangladeshi women to two years' imprisonment for illegally entering India and residing in the country without valid travel documents. The court also directed that they be deported to Bangladesh after completing their prison terms and fulfilling all legal formalities.
The women, identified as Shahnaj Bilal Saddar (43) and Hasina Jabbar Khan (45), pleaded guilty to the charges before Additional Sessions Judge V.G. Mohite. Before accepting their plea, the judge confirmed that it had been made voluntarily and was not the result of any threat, inducement, or pressure. In addition to the prison sentence, each woman was fined ₹10,000.
According to the prosecution, the women were arrested during a raid conducted by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell in the Mira Road area of Thane district on December 3, 2024. Since they have remained in judicial custody since their arrest, the court granted them the benefit of a set-off for the period already spent in custody.
Authorities will initiate deportation proceedings after they complete the remaining legal formalities.
