Rs 28,000 crore Rajasthan Nuclear Power Project set to invite construction bids

Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd (ASHVINI), a joint venture between the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) and NTPC Ltd, is preparing to invite engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) bids worth over ₹28,000 crore for the nuclear island package of the Mahi Banswara Atomic Power Project in Rajasthan.

The package covers the construction of four indigenous 700 MW pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWRs), making it one of India's largest nuclear infrastructure contracts.

The Mahi Banswara project will have a total installed capacity of 2,800 MW and forms a key part of India's strategy to expand nuclear power generation to meet rising electricity demand while reducing carbon emissions. Once operational, the plant is expected to provide a reliable source of clean energy and strengthen the country's long-term energy security.

The project is being developed under the Centre's broader plan to increase the share of nuclear energy in India's power mix. Industry experts believe the massive investment will create employment opportunities, boost local infrastructure, and support economic growth in Rajasthan.

The upcoming tender is expected to attract major infrastructure and engineering companies, marking another significant step in India's clean energy transition.
