Madan Mitra quits Mamata Banerjee camp, joins rebel TMC faction amid leadership rift

Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and MLA Madan Mitra has resigned from all key positions in the Mamata Banerjee-led faction of the party and joined the rebel group headed by Ritabrata Banerjee.
His move marks another setback for the former West Bengal chief minister as internal divisions within the TMC continue to widen.
Speaking after joining the rival faction, Mitra claimed that he was unhappy with the party's leadership structure and alleged that Abhishek Banerjee refused to step aside despite repeated concerns raised by party members. He said the decision to switch camps was driven by differences over the party's direction and functioning rather than personal ambitions.
Mitra's exit comes amid growing political uncertainty within the Trinamool Congress following recent electoral setbacks and a series of defections. Political observers believe his decision could encourage more leaders to reconsider their allegiance as rival factions compete for influence within the party.
The latest development is expected to intensify the political battle in West Bengal, with both factions likely to strengthen their organisational efforts ahead of upcoming political events and legislative challenges.
