Telangana Woman Found Dead; Husband Accused Of Killing Her For Rs 1 Crore Insurance Claim

A 28-year-old woman found dead in Telangana’s Khammam district is now at the centre of a suspected murder investigation after her family alleged that she was killed for a Rs 1 crore insurance payout.

The deceased, identified as Guguloth Meenakshi, was found hanging at her residence on Friday. While the case was initially believed to be a suicide, suspicions grew after her relatives accused her husband, Shivaji, of murdering her to claim insurance money and clear mounting debts.

According to family members, Shivaji, an electrical contractor, was under severe financial stress, including a house loan of nearly Rs 80 lakh. They alleged that Meenakshi had an insurance policy worth around Rs 1 crore and claimed that her husband had repeatedly threatened her, saying their financial burden would end if she died.

Police have detained Shivaji for questioning and are examining insurance documents, financial records and other evidence as part of the investigation.

Officials said injury marks found on Meenakshi’s body raised doubts about the suicide angle, prompting a detailed probe into whether she was murdered before being hanged to make the death appear self-inflicted.

The case took a dramatic turn after a disturbing video surfaced following her death. The clip allegedly shows Shivaji assaulting Meenakshi, tying her hands, beating her with a belt and pulling her hair while she screams. Their child can also reportedly be heard crying in the background.

Police said the video had earlier been recorded by one of Meenakshi’s relatives but was not made public at the time because elders in the family had attempted to settle the dispute between the couple.

The couple had reportedly been married for around 14 years and had two sons.

Thirumalayapalem Police Station Inspector V Srinivas said the investigation is ongoing and all angles are being examined. Police have registered a case of suspicious death and cruelty.
