10-Year-Old Girl Abducted, Murdered In Coimbatore; CM Vijay Promises Strict Action

A 10-year-old girl, who had gone out to buy groceries near her home in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district, was allegedly abducted and murdered, triggering outrage across the state.
Police said the girl had been missing since Thursday evening and her body was later found with injuries near Kannampalayam lake in the Sulur area on Friday. Two accused, identified as Karthik and Mohan Raj, have been arrested in connection with the case.
The incident sparked protests outside the Sulur police station, with the victim’s family and relatives demanding justice and strict punishment for the accused.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay condemned the incident and assured strong action against those involved. In a post on X, he said such “inhuman and unforgivable criminal acts” would not be tolerated in society.
The victim’s family initially refused to accept the body from the mortuary, demanding a direct assurance from the Chief Minister regarding justice in the case.
A relative of the victim said the family was informed late about the incident and alleged that the child was first reported missing before police later confirmed her death near the lakeside.
Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Sandeep Rai Rathore reached Coimbatore to review the investigation. Senior officials said the accused would face the strictest possible punishment.
The case also triggered a political confrontation in the state, with the opposition DMK attacking the newly formed TVK government over the law and order situation.
Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin alleged that several serious crimes had taken place within days of the new government assuming office and questioned the state’s safety situation.
TVK leaders, including Sulur MLA NM Sukumar and Minister MS Sampath, visited the victim’s family and assured them that justice would be delivered swiftly.
