Teen shot in Amar Colony dies, 2 more accused arrested

A 17-year-old boy who was shot in the head in Delhi’s Amar Colony last week succumbed to his injuries on Monday, prompting police to add murder charges to the case.

Sai Kumar, a Class 12 student of Blue Bells School, died around 11.45 am after remaining on ventilator support since the May 26 shooting. His body has been kept at AIIMS, where a post-mortem examination is expected on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police arrested two more accused in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Yash Bidhuri, a resident of Tughlakabad, and Jai Kumar. With the latest arrests, three people, including a juvenile, have been apprehended so far.

A senior police officer said the Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, will add Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to the FIR following the teenager’s death.

Police had earlier apprehended a 16-year-old boy from Okhla on May 28 and recovered an automatic pistol allegedly used in the crime. Investigators noted that the accused reportedly have criminal records.

According to police, the incident took place on the evening of May 26 when Sai had gone to an eatery in Amar Colony with a female friend. The victim’s family alleged that three boys made remarks about the girl, leading to an argument. The accused allegedly left the spot, returned with a firearm, assaulted Sai and shot him in the head.

Police said the altercation may have begun after one of the accused brushed past Sai’s chair.

Sai’s father, Sunil Kumar, said his son had gone out with friends after completing his Class 12 examinations.

“The accused first misbehaved with a girl who was with my son. When Sai objected, they started harassing him. He tried to avoid confrontation, but they shot him. Since then, he had been in a coma, and now he is no more,” he said.

The family has alleged negligence and delays in the investigation and demanded strict action against all those involved. Sai, an only child, lived with his family in Chattarpur Enclave.

Police sources said the arrested juvenile was previously linked to a shooting case in Kalkaji and was known for allegedly posing as a relative of a politician. Authorities are examining his background and possible involvement in other criminal activities.
