NSUI moves Delhi HC seeking probe into CBSE Class 12 on-screen marking system irregularities

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking an independent investigation into alleged irregularities in the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) on-screen marking (OSM) system for Class 12 examinations. The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) also demands manual rechecking and physical verification of answer sheets for affected students.
According to the plea, there have been widespread concerns among students and parents regarding the fairness and accuracy of the OSM-based evaluation process. The petition highlights reported technical issues, scanning errors, and discrepancies in the system, which it claims have impacted a large number of students. It also notes that CBSE itself acknowledged technical glitches on its portal for accessing scanned answer sheets.

The NSUI has argued that more than 1.27 lakh applications were submitted for nearly 3.87 lakh scanned answer books, indicating a high level of dissatisfaction among students. The plea states that the existing grievance redressal mechanism is inadequate and does not provide meaningful manual verification or independent rechecking of disputed answer scripts.
The petition further claims that students are facing academic setbacks, including loss of admission opportunities, scholarships, and delays in academic progression due to alleged evaluation issues. It seeks directions to keep the verification portal open for at least one month and calls for safeguards and guidelines to improve future digital evaluation systems. The matter is expected to be heard by the Delhi High Court on June 8.
