Landslide damages several houses in Sikkim's Gyalshing district

A landslide triggered by continuous heavy rain damaged several houses in Sikkim's Gyalshing district, officials said on Friday.

The incident occurred late Thursday night in Rimbi village, where several houses, including government accommodation units, were destroyed or suffered extensive damage.

No casualties were reported in the incident, officials said.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed concern over the situation and said the safety and well-being of residents affected by the landslide remained the government's priority.

Tamang directed local authorities to stay on high alert, monitor the situation closely and take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of residents.

He also urged people in the affected area to remain cautious amid the heavy rainfall, follow official advisories and support each other.

The state government is taking necessary measures to protect residents and manage the situation in Rimbi, he said.  (with inputs from PTI)
