Scindia unveils Rs 350-crore projects in Mizoram, flags Northeast growth push

Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Monday inaugurated an institute of arts and music and virtually laid the foundation stones for nine projects worth around Rs 350 crore in Mizoram, describing them as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for the development of the Northeast.

Scindia, who arrived at Lengpui airport earlier in the day, travelled to Tuivamit on the western outskirts of Aizawl, where he inaugurated the Aizawl Institute of Arts and Music for the Northeastern Region in the presence of Chief Minister Lalduhoma.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said the projects would contribute to the region's development and progress, with roads and improved connectivity forming important components of the infrastructure push.

Scindia also announced that Aizawl would host the Northeast Bankers' Conclave on Tuesday, following the previous edition in Agartala.

The conclave, to be held at Mizoram University, is aimed at improving access to institutional credit and encouraging investment in the region, particularly by facilitating loans for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and entrepreneurs, he said.

Organised in association with the Department of Financial Services, the meeting will seek to convert the Northeast's investment potential into greater economic activity by strengthening access to finance.

Scindia said investments worth nearly Rs 4.5 lakh crore were committed to the Northeast at the Northeast Investors' Conclave in 2025, with a substantial share earmarked for Mizoram.

"This deepening effort will result in greater economic potential and GDP growth in all our eight states," he said.

The minister stressed that infrastructure, especially roads and connectivity, was essential to unlocking economic opportunities across the region.

Scindia is scheduled to attend the bankers' conclave on Tuesday before leaving for Delhi, officials said.
