Punjab man hacked to death outside Tarn Taran bus stand in suspected honour killing

A 22-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death outside a bus stand in Punjab's Tarn Taran in a suspected case of honour killing, with police accusing the brothers of a woman he had recently married of carrying out the attack.

The victim, identified as Jagjit Singh, was allegedly attacked with knives by Jaspreet Singh and Harpreet Singh on Sunday, police said. He died at the spot.

According to police, Jagjit had eloped with the accused men's sister and married her about a month ago. Her family was reportedly opposed to the marriage.

Police said the woman's mother asked Jagjit to meet her at the bus stand on Sunday. When he arrived, her two brothers were allegedly waiting for him. The two men then attacked him with knives, killing him on the spot.

Police reached the location after the attack and arrested Jaspreet Singh, while Harpreet Singh managed to escape.

A murder case has been registered, and police teams are searching for the absconding accused, officials said.  (with inputs from PTI)
