PM Modi to attend Somnath Amrut Mahotsav at Somnath temple Gujarat roadshow planned

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav celebrations at the historic Somnath temple in Gujarat’s Veraval on May 11, marking 75 years since the temple’s restoration.

Gujarat cabinet minister Jitu Vaghani confirmed the visit on Friday, stating that the Prime Minister will participate in the grand ceremony at the revered shrine.

The event commemorates the inauguration of the restored Somnath temple by the then President of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad.

According to officials, Modi will arrive in Jamnagar from Hyderabad on May 10 late in the evening and will stay overnight before proceeding to Somnath the following day.

The Prime Minister is also expected to take part in multiple religious rituals at the temple, including Abhishek, Dhwaj Pooja, and Maha Pooja.

During the celebrations, flower petals will be showered on the temple from helicopters, while the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran aerobatic team will present a special airshow.

A roadshow is also planned for the Prime Minister in Somnath, which will begin from the helipad and proceed to the statue of Veer Hamirji Gohil.

Cultural performances, including participation from the Bengali community in Gujarat, will also be part of the celebrations.

Later in the day, Modi will address a public gathering at Sadbhavana Ground, which will be attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, state ministers and BJP leaders.

Following the Somnath programme, the Prime Minister will travel to Vadodara, where he is expected to inaugurate a hostel complex built for students of the Patidar community under the Sardar Dham Trust.

In Vadodara, a 1.5 km roadshow is also scheduled from Gada Circle to Motibhai Circle and onwards to the airport.

Ahead of his visit, Modi referenced the Somnath event in a signed newspaper article, recalling his earlier visit in 2026 for Somnath Swabhiman Parv and highlighting the historical significance of the temple’s restoration.

The upcoming visit is expected to be a major cultural and political event in Gujarat, with large-scale participation planned across multiple programmes.
