Amazon India to expand Ashray rest centres for delivery partners to 250 by 2026

Amazon India has announced plans to significantly expand its network of rest centres for delivery partners, known as Ashray Centres, aiming to increase the total to 250 by the end of 2026.

As part of the expansion, the company will add 150 new centres this year, including 50 new facilities by the end of May, according to a statement issued on Friday.

The initiative is designed to improve working conditions for delivery personnel by providing accessible rest points during long working hours, especially in peak summer conditions.

Salim R Memon, Director of Operations at Amazon India, said the company prioritises the health, safety and well-being of all delivery associates across its logistics network.

He said the Ashray initiative is based on the idea that every delivery partner, regardless of affiliation, deserves a clean and comfortable space to rest during their workday.

The expanded centres will include air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, mobile charging points, first-aid kits, clean washrooms and designated rest areas.

Amazon currently operates around 100 Ashray Centres across 16 cities in India and is working with multiple partners, including Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Udyasa Foundation and Rural Education and Development (READ) India, to scale up the infrastructure.

The expansion is part of a broader investment of over ₹2,800 crore aimed at strengthening safety, health and welfare measures for delivery partners.

The company also plans to introduce mobile units to extend these facilities directly to delivery drivers in high-demand zones.

The initiative reflects growing focus among e-commerce companies on improving working conditions for last-mile delivery workers in India’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
