HM Amit Shah says infiltration and cattle smuggling will end in West Bengal under BJP government

Union Home Minister Amit Shah that infiltration and cattle smuggling would become “impossible” in West Bengal under the newly formed BJP government, following the party’s sweeping victory in the state assembly elections.

Speaking at the BJP legislature party meeting in Kolkata, Shah said the election outcome was not just a political win but a mandate linked to national security and governance reforms in the state.

He said the BJP’s victory represented an effort to address what he described as long-standing security concerns in the region.

“This victory is not about the expansion of our organisation or validation of ideology, but about fixing the biggest hole in the country’s national security,” Shah said. “Now infiltration and cow smuggling will become impossible in West Bengal.”

Shah also launched a strong attack on the outgoing Trinamool Congress (TMC) government led by Mamata Banerjee, accusing it of politicising the administration and allowing criminalisation of politics during its 15-year rule.

He assured that under the BJP government, governance would remain free from political interference and criminal influence.

During the meeting, Shah formally announced Suvendu Adhikari as the leader of the BJP legislature party and the state’s Chief Minister designate, following unanimous support from newly elected MLAs.

Shah said that multiple proposals were received during the selection process, but all supported Adhikari’s name, leading to his formal announcement as CM.

The BJP’s victory in West Bengal marks the end of the TMC’s 15-year rule and paves the way for the formation of the party’s first government in the state.

Shah thanked voters for supporting the BJP despite what he described as a climate of fear and political violence in the state over several years.

He also alleged that democratic expression had been suppressed in Bengal in earlier years but said voters overcame those challenges to deliver a decisive mandate.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new government is expected to be held shortly, marking a significant political shift in West Bengal’s governance landscape.
