Over 8 lakh women issued Pink Saheli smart cards for free bus travel in Delhi

More than 8 lakh women in Delhi have been issued Pink Saheli Smart Cards, allowing them to travel free of cost on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said.
According to official data, a total of 840,618 cards had been distributed as of May 18, 2026. The scheme uses National Common Mobility tap-and-go technology and is aimed at providing seamless and cashless travel for women and transgender passengers.
The Chief Minister said that while both pink paper tickets and smart cards are currently valid, the government plans to make the smart card the sole medium for availing free travel in the future.
To speed up issuance, the government has launched special registration drives and camps across Delhi, including DTC pass sections, district magistrate offices, and designated distribution centres.
Gupta added that the initiative reflects growing public trust in the city’s transport system and is part of a broader effort to modernise and make public transport more efficient, transparent, and women-friendly.
