NDRF deploys special CBRN Team after ammonia gas leak in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur

A specialised team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to Tiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu following an ammonia gas leak incident that prompted emergency response measures in the affected area. The Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) unit was mobilised to assist local authorities in rescue, containment, and safety operations.

Officials said emergency teams were rushed to the site immediately after reports of the gas leak emerged. The specialised CBRN personnel are equipped to handle hazardous material incidents and are working to assess the extent of the leak, monitor air quality, and ensure the safety of residents and workers in the vicinity.

Local administration, fire services, police, and medical teams have also been deployed as a precautionary measure. Authorities have taken steps to secure the affected zone and prevent public exposure while technical experts work to identify the source of the leak and bring the situation under control.

Ammonia is widely used in industrial processes, and exposure to high concentrations can pose health risks, including respiratory irritation and breathing difficulties. Officials have advised residents to follow safety instructions issued by emergency services and avoid entering restricted areas.

The incident is under investigation, and authorities are continuing efforts to ensure the area is safe while minimizing any potential impact on nearby communities.
